Two public libraries in St. Lawrence County are to receive library construction grant funds from the state.
The funding comes from $34 million in capital funds approved for public library construction projects in the 2019-20 State Budget, said state Sen. Joseph Griffo, who represents the 47th Senate District which includes parts of St. Lawrence County.
Grants awarded to libraries in the 47th Senate District include:
· Massena Public Library (41 Glenn St., Massena): $122,867 to upgrade/retrofit all interior and exterior lighting in the building.
· Potsdam Public Library (2 Park St., Potsdam): $350,479 to restructure library layout, replace elevator, improve staff areas and replace roof.
“For many communities throughout the region, local public libraries play a critically important role as centers of learning, culture and civic activity,” Sen. Griffo said. “However, it can be difficult to afford the necessary upgrades and renovations that these buildings may require. This funding will help libraries throughout my district undertake a variety of improvements and projects that will allow them to flourish for years to come.”
