POTSDAM – The job of winnowing down the list of 47 proposals for the village’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative begins this week for the Local Planning Committee of community members, their state partners and the state-appointed consultants.

They will have work group meetings Thursday before the public Local Planning Committee meeting that evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Civic Center’s third-floor Community Room. There will be an opportunity for public comment at the end of the meeting.

The solicitation of proposals for the $10 million program closed Jan. 31, and the effort to collect opinions from Potsdam residents about the direction of DRI closed Feb. 14, so now the committee begins the months-long work of selecting projects and finding the right state funders begins.

The schedule for this month includes the compiling the preliminary project list, crafting a downtown profile, and formulating strategies, according to lead consultants M.J. Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C. of Clifton Park.

On March 3, a second DRI open house is set for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Town Hall Community Room , 18 Elm St. The LPC will be providing information regarding the preliminary list of projects aimed at advancing the community’s DRI vision, goals, and strategies. Following a short presentation, the consultant team, state partners and LPC will answer questions from attendees.
