POTSDAM -- Potsdam Central School is reporting multiple cases of COVID-19 in their district this week.
On Monday school officials were notified that a high school student tested positive for COVID-19. Wednesday, officials there learned that an elementary staff member had also tested positive. On Thursday, positive cases involving a middle school staff member and a high school student were reported.
"In each case, the building administrator and school nurse worked closely with the St. Lawrence County Department of Health to identify the individual’s close contacts at the school," according to Superintendent Joann Chambers. "Those that have been in direct contact with the positive student or staff member have already been or will soon be contacted by a school administrator or our school nurse."
St. Lawrence County Department of Health officials will reach out to all contacts to provide quarantine information, and to arrange testing of those exposed. Vaccinated individuals who are not experiencing symptoms will not be required to quarantine.
"At this time, we are not aware of any transmission of the COVID-19 virus in our school buildings," Chambers said. "The health and safety protocols we have in place are working well, and we must remain vigilant."
Chambers is urging parents to continue to monitor symptoms and keep children home from school if they are ill.
People can seek COVID-19 testing proactively at testing sites available throughout the county.
