Postwood Beach in Hannawa Falls hoping to open tomorrow

HANNAWA FALLS – Postwood Beach is hoping to finally reopen tomorrow Aug. 4.

“Installation at Postwood went very well last week and we were able to submit a water sample to the lab before Friday. Excitingly, we heard this morning that the sample came back negative so we are just now waiting for the green light from the Department of Health,” a post on the Potsdam Recreation Facebook page said.

The beach has been closed since the beginning of the season because the water treatment system broke down.

Daily beach hours will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Kayak and paddleboard rentals will be available. Rentals for five or more people should be made via reservation 24 hours in advance.

“Visitors coming to Postwood will need to check in with staff near the concession and washroom area before heading down to the waterfront and masks will be required when social distancing is difficult and when entering the washrooms to either change or use the restroom” the post said.

“We are looking to have Postwood opened through Labor Day Weekend, but that is all contingent on the availability of our lifeguards as colleges and universities start welcoming back some of their students,” said Recreation Director Trey Smutz in his Facebook post.
