Portion of Village of Canton under boil water advisory

CANTON -- All municipal water customers on the north side of East Main Street, from Stiles Avenue to the intersection of state routes 68 and 310, state Route 310 from the Price Chopper exit South to the intersection of state routes 68 and 310, and US Route 11 from the intersection of state routes 37 and 68 to end of Village Service Line are under a boil water advisory.

The village says they been affected by a shutdown of water service due to emergency water line repairs.

The requirement to boil water for drinking and cooking will be required until water operators have two consecutive days of negative coli-form bacterial results. Notification letters will be handed out at that time. In order to ensure that disease-causing organisms do not exist in your drinking water, you should boil the water at a rolling boil for at least two minutes.

When service is restored the water will likely be discolored. Allowing your faucets to run will eventually clear the water. Check your washing machine water before adding a load. It may require a cycle to flush the discolored water first, or do laundry the following day.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause you, but it is for your health that this is required. Any questions may be addressed by calling the Water Plant at 386-2936 or the Village Clerk’s Office at 386-2871. Please leave a message as we may be collecting samples or other necessary work, and we will return your call,” a news release from the village says.
