Andrew W. French of Ford Street Extension has been charged with second-degree attempted murder (Class B felony), second-degree burglary (Class C felony), and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief (Class E felonies) in connection with the incident.
Police report that they initially responded on June 5 at about 11 p.m. to a report of a victim being stabbed multiple times in the neck at the apartment complex, which is a United Helpers facility.
Officers arrived and secured the scene at which time the Ogdensburg Fire Department arrived to render medical aid, followed by the Ogdensburg Volunteer Rescue Squad. The victim was then transported to Claxton Hepburn Medical Center for severe lacerations to his upper body.
Police say French fled the scene but was located and secured a short time later. He was held in a secure facility during the investigation, police said, before being charged June 9.

French was arraigned by the Honorable Marcia Lemay and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.
Assisting the Ogdensburg Police Department in the investigation were the New York State Police, St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s Office, United States Border Patrol, New York State Environmental Conservation Police, and New York State Forest Rangers.
