Oswegatchie River waterfront revitalization program wants residents to take survey

CANTON — Thinking about the coming summer recreation season on the Oswegatchie River? Why not kick it off by responding to the Oswegatchie River Local Waterfront Revitalization Program opinion survey?

The survey is very brief to encourage maximum participation. In fact, it is so brief it will take almost no time at all away from boat cleaning, fly tying, airing out camping gear, bike tuning, and other pre-season chores!

The Town of Canton is leading the cooperative effort among the towns of De Kalb and Oswegatchie and villages of Richville, Rensselaer Falls and Heuvelton for Part One of a Local Waterfront Revitalization Program. An approved LWRP reflects community consensus and provides a clear direction for appropriate future development. It establishes a long-term partnership among local governments, community-based organizations, and the State. Communities with approved LWRPs can apply for grant funding to implement projects identified in the LWRP.

The survey asks how respondents use the Oswegatchie River and invites them to contribute to the LWRP inventory by identifying must-see spots along the river inside the study area that should be revitalized, preserved, and celebrated.

The survey has been open since winter, but the project is concluding soon. The Oswegatchie River LWRP survey is available through this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Oswegatchie_LWRP

An online public meeting to discuss the project boundary and inventory will be held later this spring.

For more information and to receive a printed copy of the survey, contact Leigh Rodriguez, Village and Town of Canton Director of Economic Development by phone at (315) 386-2871 x5 and email at lrodriguez@cantonny.gov.
