OGDENSBURG — Ogdensburg historian Julie Madlin received state recognition recently when she was named Vice President of the New York State Association of Public Historians.

The Association of Public Historians of New York State is a non-profit professional

organization that represents the 1,600+ government-appointed historians in the state. Under state law, every county and municipality in New York is required to have an appointed historian to document, preserve, interpret, and share the history of their communities.

Julie Madlin has been the historian for the City of Ogdensburg, since 2014.

She has been a social studies teacher at Heuvelton Central School since 1995 and is a former assistant at the Ogdensburg Public Library.

She earned a bachelor of arts in history from Syracuse University and master of science in teaching from SUNY Potsdam.

Recently Madlin played a vital role in the creation of the Ogdensburg History Museum.

“It is great to see this museum open. We now have a physical place for the museum that has been talked about for 40 years,” she said at the Ribbon Cutting in November.

Madlin has also worked to promote the city’s history by creating videos and self guided tours of the city’s historical buildings.

The Ogdensburg History Museum is located at 206 Ford St.
