Ogdensburg Fire Department labor contract expected to be settled tonight

OGDENSBURG -- Ogdensburg City Council is expected to settle a labor contract with the Ogdensburg Fire Department at a special meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

This comes on the heels of requests from incoming councilors to the sitting council to hold off on settling contracts until they take office in January.

However, the current council has ignored that request, saying that doing so would mean that all negotiations up to this point would not have been done in good faith.

Ogdensburg City Council has already settled contracts with the police department and civil service employees.

Although no action on a contract deal is listed in the agenda for tonight’s meeting, an executive session on the matter is planned.

The city is also expected to vote on two other resolutions.

The first is regarding the extension of the contract to provide security at the Ogdensburg International Airport.

The second is a resolution that would allow the city manager to sign a sewer service agreement with the Village for Heuvelton. The agreement would have Heuvelton pay a connection fee that would cover the cost of an increased storage tank and pumps capable of handling the increase in flow.

The $479,206 fee will be used to help fund that project as an alternate that was cut from the city’s massive wastewater treatment plant project.
