OGDENSBURG -- The Greater Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce is asking its members to help fight a major planned funding cut by the city.
Jack McGrath, the chamber’s 2011 president, will ask the City Council Monday to restore funding to the $15,000 requested by the chamber for next year. City funding to the chamber has been cut to $8,450 in next year’s proposed budget.
“This is $6,550.00 less than the $15,000 we have received in the past,” said Chamber Executive Director Sandy Porter in a message sent to members Friday.
The chamber’s board of directors feels that the chamber’s tourism efforts, community activism, and support of local businesses has grown over the years, she noted. “However our allotment from the City has been reduced. We need these funds to remain active and vocal on your behalf.”
The city council will meet Monday at 7 p.m.
