North Country This Week awards scholarships to Canton, Potsdam, Norwood-Norfolk students

Three area graduating high school seniors who will be attending college in the North Country have received $500 scholarships from North Country This Week and NorthCountryNow.com.

They are Mattigan Porter of Canton Central, Ava Reynolds of Potsdam Central, and Rhett Ashley of Norwood-Norfolk.

Porter is the daughter of Bill and Kate Porter.  She has been a member of the volleyball and basketball teams, receiving 2nd Team All-Northern as well as Athlete of Distinction for basketball and volleyball. She is an avid equestrian rider and helps to feed, clean and exercise horses at the stables where she rides.  Porter plans to attend St. Lawrence University and study psychology with a possible minor in creative writing.  

Reynolds is the daughter of Tara Reynolds and Jeff Johnson. She played soccer and lacrosse all four years of high school. She volunteers at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Potsdam and is a waitress at Robideau’s Mahogany Ridge in South Colton. Reynolds is planning to attend SUNY Canton to major in nursing and play on the women’s lacrosse team.

Ashley is the son of Lawrence and Nicole Ashley of Norwood. He played on the golf, hockey and soccer teams during high school and is a member of the National Honor Society. Ashley plans to attend Clarkson University in Potsdam to major in pre-med.
