NNCS moves to remote learning after student tests positive for COVID-19

NORWOOD — Norwood-Norfolk Central School has moved to remote instruction for at least two days after a student tested positive for COVID-19.

NNCS Superintendent Jamie Cruikshank issued a statement to district parents and the community. The statement said:

“In the interest of transparency, I am writing to inform you that there has been a positive case of COVID-19 among our student population. The district will pivot to a fully remote learning model for the next two days (October 20-21) while we work closely with the St. Lawrence County Public Health Department in their contact tracing process. While it is apparent that our health and safety measures have helped limit contacts in our district, we will continue to work with the Public Health Department to assess the situation over the next two days.

“Students who attend the BOCES special education program at Potsdam or the CTE program at Seaway Tech will continue with their normal routines in those programs. We will continue to follow the nmmal transportation plans. We will continue to update our community as more information becomes available. If you or your child have come in contact with the positive individual, you will be contacted directly by St. Lawrence County Public Health and be placed under mandatory quarantine. If you have concerns and would like to seek COVID-19 testing proactively for you or your child, there are testing sites available throughout the county. Contact information is included below.

“St. Lawrence Health System (Canton, Potsdam, Gouverneur, Massena): (315) 261-6240

Clifton-Fine Hospital: (315) 848-8049

Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center: (315) 713-6655

As a reminder, free meals are available for families to pick up on Wednesday, October 21 from 11:30-12:30 at the back of the high school.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns.”
