North Country This Week
CANTON - Canton is expected to have a new recreation director on board in a few weeks.
In her Recreation Committee report, Trustee Carol Pynchon said the first round of interviews went well with in-person interviews to be conducted soon.
Pynchon noted that Taylor Park is now open under the direction of Anita Francis. The village has decided to proceed with swim lessons as they await guidelines from the state. She said the guidance is expected any day, prompting the village to give the green light.
It is anticipated swim lessons will be held at the Canton Central pool and run Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday July 1 through Aug. 6.
The cost for Canton residents for the five-week session is $40 for the first child and $25 for each additional child. The cost for non-residents will be $50.
Children between the ages 4 and 12 may register at https://forms.gle/iWVnPGebfkrcNowX6 Paper copies are available in the town and village clerks’ offices.
For information on swimming lessons, contact Elizabeth Burke at elizabethkb13@gamil.com or call 315-854-3142. Updates will be posted on cantonny.gov
The board also approved the following appointments to the Recreation Advisory Board: Tim Abplanalp, Troy Creurer, Matt Metcalf, Mark McKenna, Frank Palumbo, Kelly Smith, Ethan Townsend, and Carla Wentworth.
