POTSDAM — The village’s new farmer’s market pavilion, off Hamilton Street, next to Ives Park was expected to be completed Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Village Administrator Greg Thompson told village trustees and the mayor at their annual meeting Dec. 5 that the steel roofing is expected to go on over the trusses and structure Tuesday (prior to this writing).

“The hope is that at the close of business tomorrow evening the pavilion will be complete,” Thompson said.

Thompson credited all of the various stakeholders and community members and the village officials and personnel for making the pavilion a reality.

“It's a community pavilion and it's a community that put it up,” he said. “We are just excited to do something with some grant money that is really going to brighten our community and provide an area for the use of our taxpayers. So we are really excited about that.”

Village Trustee Alexandra Jacobs Wilke, who worked to help secure grant funding for the work, also praised all of those involved.

“It’s been a community effort and I’m really excited to see it go up,” she said.

The project was funded by a $32,010 grant from T-Mobile last spring. The village was one of only 50 communities nationwide who received the grant. Work was expected to begin on the structure this past summer but a number of delays related to siting delayed an actual start to construction until this fall.

The village worked with a local Amish carpenter to build the pavilion.
