CANTON – Family Nurse Practitioner Kayla Smalling has joined St. Lawrence Health’s (SLH) Rheumatology team. Her office is located in the St. Lawrence Health Medical Campus, 6119 US Route 11.
FNP Smalling began working in the Rheumatology office in 2018 as a Care Coordinator, and returned to school during that time to further her education. Prior to her experience in the Rheumatology Department, she worked as a Registered Nursing in Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s medical/surgical units.
“Working as a Care Coordinator in Rheumatology for the past few years sparked my curiosity and pushed me to take a deeper dive and continue my education. I am eager to rejoin my team in this new role, and to provide rheumatology services to our deserving community,” Smalling said.
“The North Country has always been my home and I cannot imagine building a family or a career anywhere else,” she added.
As a Family Nurse Practitioner, Ms. Smalling performs physical exams, orders diagnostic tests and procedures, diagnoses and treats illness, prescribes needed medications, and teaches her patients how to develop healthy lifestyles to promote health and prevent disease.
