OGDENSBURG – A memorial dedication to recognize a North Country citizen who spent his life demonstrating how dedicated volunteers can make a difference in the life of a community is being planned for Charles (Chuck) Kelly June 5.

Kelly was a longtime Ogdensburg Journal editor and General Manager of St. Lawrence County Newspapers who passed away October 21, 2018.

“The memorial is to honor Chuck and his legacy and what he did for people in the North Country,” said Thomas Hannan, a neighbor who described Kelly as “almost family.”

The dedication ceremony will take place Saturday, June 5, at 2 p.m. at the park on Hamilton Street, across from St. Mary’s Cathedral.

“Kelly was passionate about so many things that affected the North Country, to make life better for Ogdensburg and the surrounding communities,” said Hannan.

“He was a true advocate to support people, jobs, and volunteer programs. He was actively involved in many things, including the Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department, Boys and Girls Club and Recreation Program,” he said.

The memorial includes four storyboards that illustrate snapshots of Chuck’s life. James Reagan, who worked with Kelly at the Ogdensburg Journal for many years, made the drafts of the narratives for each storyboard.

The memorial also includes benches, shrubbery and lights for the area.

“The Charles W. Kelly Memorial Park Committee is very thankful for the many contributions to the memorial fund,” said Hannan.

A dedication ceremony for the newly completed Charles W. Kelly Memorial, across from St. Mary’s Cathedral, on Hamilton Street will take place Saturday, June 5, at 2 p.m.
