MASSENA — Former Massena police officer Brandon Huckle will receive no jail time after damaging a person’s vehicle while executing a search warrant.

The case was prosecuted by Franklin County's District Attorneys office, due to potential conflicts as Huckle was a law enforcement officer in St. Lawrence County.

Huckle was with the Massena Police Department before being put on leave for the incident in question, which occurred March 16, 2021. He later resigned in August the same year.

Huckle was caught on a security camera purposely striking a vehicle with an interior garage door multiple times while serving a warrant at the premises.

Attorney Ed Narrow, who represented Huckle beginning in April, said the deal was formally accepted on May 11.

Under the terms of the proposal, Huckle pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a non-criminal violation, paid an undisclosed fine and agreed to pay restitution to Bernie Russo totaling $554.69.

The deal includes a one-year conditional discharge, under which Huckle must follow all local, state and federal laws. If found in violation of any laws, he could be forced to return to Louisville town court for a conditional discharge hearing, at which time he could be re-sentenced on the violation charge.

Huckle would serve a maximum of 15 days in county jail if a violation and re-sentencing were to occur, according to Narrow.

According to disciplinary records obtained last year by North Country This Week, Huckle had prior disciplinary misconduct incidents in Dec. 2016 and July 2017.

Huckle, while off duty, hosted two individuals caught in the 2013 drug sweep operation known as “Operation Problem Child”, one of whom was previously charged with kidnapping and was convicted of attempted kidnapping.

In the documents, Huckle acknowledged the behavior constituted misconduct for a police officer. At the time, Huckle was forced to forfeit 12 hours of accrued vacation time.

In July 2017, Huckle was cited for forcing a highly intoxicated female to leave his bedroom naked in the early morning hours because another woman was coming to his home.

Huckle also acknowledged making several text messages that criticized the Massena Police Department and a sergeant within the department.

In the 2017 incident, he was cited for violating police policies governing “conduct unbecoming,” “public statement or appearance,” “conduct and behavior,” “respect for fellow officers and employees” and “private conduct.”

Any further action taken against Huckle by the department and former Police Chief Adam Love are unknown.
