MASSENA -- Prior to drastic social changes sparked by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Massena Broomball league recently finished their season and playoffs.

League teams played a three-game guarantee elimination tournament playoff based upon their standings after league play.

The league finished with four teams and the competition level was high.

Teams were Norwood, Open Net/Smokehouse, Open Net “The Net” (formerly Bowlmor) and Akwesasne Ice Pigs.

Norwood ran the table in the regular season going undefeated, followed by the Ice Pigs with only two losses. The Net finished at .500 and the Open Net/Smokehouse team was the fourth seed for the playoffs.

Norwood stayed undefeated in playoffs taking the championship game over the Ice Pigs in overtime 2 -1.

The team captains who helped keep the league going were Mike Macaulay, John Smith, Norm Seguin and Dwight Bero Jr.

League Coordinator Curt Wood thanked all the players, the captains and special thanks to referee Wayne Roshia , timekeeper Tim Belile, and Webmaster/Stats Guru Kevin Hartigan, and to Mike McCabe and all of the arena staff working with us to make the season run smoothly.

The league is hoping to expand next year and is looking for teams and players. There will be a meeting for interested teams included in the end of the year meeting that will be announced shortly on the league’s Facebook page, or contact Curt Wood, 315 250 6588 or curtatbud@gmail.com.
