LOUISVILLE -- A Louisville man was arrested Sunday after falsely reporting that his vehicle has been stolen, according to state police.
Troopers said they charged 50-year-old James E. Kelley with providing a false written statement and third-degree falsely reporting an incident. The charges came following an investigation into a report of a stolen vehicle.
On Nov. 23, 2020, Kelley reported that his car had been stolen from his driveway on State Route 37B in Louisville, police said.
An investigation by state police revealed his vehicle had been involved in a motor vehicle accident on Nov. 19, 2020, and the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident revealed she had permission from Kelley to use the vehicle.
Kelley later admitted his vehicle was never stolen and he falsely reported the theft.
He was issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Louisville Court.
