OGDENSBURG –The annual Kids’ Fishing Derby drew nearly 80 children and their families Saturday morning, July 24, kicking off Ogdensburg’s Seaway Festival.
Excited young anglers ages 2-12 filled the St. Lawrence River shore at Morrisette Park, hoping for a bite on their fishing lines.
Five anglers received trophies and a bicycle. First place winner was Mason Maroney, with a 12.75- inch bass. Second place was David Bush, and third place was Kaden LaRue. The winner of the strangest catch was Dallas Bell, with a fishing line covered with zebra mussels. The sportsmanship award was given to Camden Brossoit.
Every child reeled in a prize for participating, thanks to Seaway Festival donors and other sponsors, including St. Lawrence Valley Sportsman Club, Bradley Service Station, Lincoln Pest Control. Pepsi, U.S. Militia RC, Ogd. V.F.W. Post 2936, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association, St. Lawrence Waterfowlers, Nadine’s Ice Cream, Jreck Subs, and Pizza Hut.
