Jean Lapper announces run for 45th State Senate District, which includes eastern St. Lawrence County

A Democrat, Lapper has decades of experience in advocating for the North Country and serving the community.

She will be running in the general election for the 45th district of the State Senate. A new district, the 45th contains eastern St. Lawrence County, as well as the northern tip of Washington County, all of Warren, Essex, Clinton and Franklin counties. With the newly redrawn lines, the seat has become an electoral dead heat based on the fact that President Biden received 49.8% of the vote in 2020.

“Our region is severely neglected in Albany, and I’m running to change that. I raised my children here and saw them leave the North Country, and I want to see it become a place they can come back to. Our region deserves representation in Albany that fights for our community to get what they deserve, not just fighting over partisan politics,” said Lapper.

Lapper runs an accounting firm in Glens Falls. During her career, she has served as president of the Glens Falls Rotary Club, as well as a board member for Tri-County United Way and the Family Services Association of Glens Falls.

“We have seen court decisions that threaten the rights we hold dearest. I want to be a voice in our legislature fighting to protect a woman’s right to choose and our residents’ freedoms to love who they love. I want to work with our small businesses to make it easier for them to operate, make sure everyone in the North Country has access to affordable high-speed broadband and fully fund the child care resources that we deserve,” concluded Lapper.
