New York U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today distributed a statement that is highly critical of Republicans in the House of Representatives for voting to slash funding for women’s health services.
Her statement follows:
After the House voted today to pass Representative Mike Pence’s (R-IN) amendment slashing critical funding for women’s health services, including cancer screenings and standard contraception through Title X, U.S. Senator Gillibrand (D-NY) released the following statement:
“When we should all be focused on creating jobs and growing our economy, House Republicans are mounting an egregious, ideological effort to please their base and threaten the lives of women and girls. Slashing funding for critical health services would prevent more than a million low-income women and families from receiving life-saving cancer screenings and treatments. We must stop this immoral assault on American women.”
Nationwide, Planned Parenthood provides life-saving tests, treatments, cervical cancer screenings, and breast exams to three million women, men and families each year. In New York, Planned Parenthood provides care to more than 220,000 patients annually.
