HOPKINTON — Residents in the Hopkinton Fire District will be called upon to vote on approving a $2.5 million bond for a new fire station.
The vote on the bond, to be obtained by the board of fire commissioners of the district for construction of a new facility at 3004 State Highway 11B, is set for Tuesday, Sept. 20 from noon to 9 p.m. at the town hall.
Public hearings on the issue will be held prior to that on Tuesday, Aug. 30 and Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at town hall. Prior to both public hearings, the current fire station will be available for walk-through tours from 5 to 7 p.m.
The local volunteer fire department has outgrown the current station.
“There definitely is a need,” said Sue Wood, town supervisor and fire commissioner board secretary. “All of the newer trucks can’t fit in because the doors aren’t big enough. And, it's not ADA compliant. There are a lot of issues there.”
All of the taxpayers residing in the district have received brochures on the hearings, vote, bond and the need for a new station, the supervisor said.
