MALONE — Two North Country residents were involved in an incident where a vehicle fled a traffic stop and nearly injured a trooper, according to state police.

Officers initiated a traffic stop on Park Street in Malone Monday shortly before 1:30 p.m. and the female operator refused to provide identification or comply with any other requests by the trooper, police said.

The investigating trooper allegedly attempted to place the driver under arrest and opened the driver’s side door of the vehicle. The female driver reportedly shut the door and drove away, nearly injuring the trooper.

After a brief pursuit, the vehicle stopped in the parking lot of Alice Hyde Memorial Hospital, officers said. A front seat passenger fled from the vehicle and into the hospital.

The female suspect was eventually removed from the vehicle and arrested. She was identified as 50-year-old Tamra R. Cook of Hogansburg.

The passenger, who was located and taken into custody inside the hospital, was identified as 33-year-old Augustus A. Allen, of Malone.

Cook reported pain to her wrists following the arrest and was evaluated at the Alice Hyde Memorial Hospital and released, police said.

Cook was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree attempted assault, second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, two counts of resisting arrest, and third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle.

She was released on appearance tickets returnable to Malone court.
