CANTON -- A Gouverneur woman was killed May 7 following a motor vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 11, according to state police.
Troopers said 85-year old Sally T. Dingsoyr, Potsdam, was traveling north on U.S. 11 in a 2021 Subaru Impreza when her vehicle entered the southbound lane and into the path of a 2008 Pontiac Torrent which was being operated by Amanda E. Perry, 30, Gouverneur.
Perry attempted to swerve out of the way but the two vehicles collided, officers said.
Perry was pronounced deceased at the scene by St. Lawrence County Coroner Joseph White. White authorized the body for removal to Canton-Potsdam Hospital where an autopsy was scheduled to be performed later today.
Dingsoyr was transported to SUNY Update Medical Center in Syracuse for a cervical fracture, internal injuries, and multiple abrasions, police said. She is in critical but stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
The accident took place around 5:17 p.m., police said.
