NORWOOD — A former Norwood Village treasurer is accused of stealing $73,725.
Nancy Berger, 55, is accused of allegedly stealing $73,725 from the Village, according to a press release.
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua made the announcement today, Sept. 29, in conjunction with New York State Police.
“I will continue to work with the State Police and Comptroller’s Office to hold the defendant accountable, rectify the financial losses incurred by the Village of Norwood, and assure the people of Norwood that my office will work to restore confidence in its public servants,” said District Attorney Pasqua.
According to a press release, Berger stands accused of stealing the funds between 2018 and 2022.
Berger is alleged to have written Village checks to herself, which was uncovered by the Village in recent months.
Berger resigned from the position shortly after the discovery in June 2022, officials say.
Berger had been appointed as Village Clerk/Treasurer in Jan. 2017.
