North Country This Week

LOUISVILLE – Golfers and golf carts are already on the course at River Course at Louisville Landing Recreation, formerly the Massena Country Club.

A “soft opening” started April 9.

Opening weekend “was a crazy, busy weekend with carts out already, because of the unusually dry weather for April,” said general manager Perry French.

The municipal golf course is now owned by the Town of Louisville and open to the public.

“People are ready to get out of the house this year,” said French. “We are seeing a lot of junior players. It was fun to see 56 junior golfers and 9 college students the first weekend. There were players with season passes, an there were many others out on the course. No membership is needed,” said French.

The restaurant has a new name, Gimme Grille, and a new manager, Tom Siddon. It is expected to open by May 1.

Siddon said the restaurant will be open seven days a week during daylight hours, just like the golf course hours of operation.

Both French and Siddon are Massena natives and PGA professionals. French recently came back to Massena from Kentucky to become the new manager of the golf course.

Season passes are available for individual members and families. Discounts are given for early payments, and for juniors, seniors and military members.

The scenic course is on the St. Lawrence River on the historic Seaway trail at 829 NY-131, Massena.
