Former Canton superintendent donates to Golden Bear foundation for next three years

CANTON -- Dr. Howard Smith, former Canton Central School Superintendent for 13 years, has donated to the Canton Golden Bear Education Foundation at the Golden Bear level for three years.

That level is at $1,000 or more. Smith is now superintendent at Tarrytown Union Free School District in Sleepy Hollow.

Smith said, ""When I moved to Canton in 1988, my decision had more to do with the community where I would raise my family and the school system where my children would be educated than with my job as school superintendent. It was a decision that was vindicated time and time again as my two children developed what are turning out to be lifelong friendships and flourished in a school district that provided them with everything they needed for their future success.

"They went on to attend competitive universities, complete graduate degrees in law and psychology, and embark on rewarding careers in their chosen fields,” Smith said.
