Congressional candidate Castelli blasts federal abortion bill

Posted

Congressional candidate Matt Castelli is speaking out against efforts by Republicans to enact a federal abortion bill aimed at limiting the procedures to thirteen weeks.

The bill would also allow for exemptions for cases involving rape, incest or to save the life of the mother.

The statement comes on the heels of back and forth attacks between Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and Castelli.

Stefanik continues to paint Castelli as “far-left”, while Castelli works to position himself a s moderate.

“Today, extremist politicians are pushing a dangerous national abortion ban that would allow government to interfere in women’s personal freedoms - including here in New York. Elise Stefanik has sold out women by supporting this vast government overreach, and is completely out of step with the voters of NY-21 who don’t want the government in our bedrooms or our medical exam rooms. These politicians need to stay the hell out of where they don’t belong and stop regulating women’s bodies,” Castelli said.

In July Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted against H.R. 8296 and H.R. 8297, known as the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2022. Which included a variety of protections for women seeking abortions.

“Less than a month after the Supreme Court’s decision return authority to the states to protect life, House Democrats are already pushing their radical late term abortion-on-demand agenda that would force every state to allow abortion up until the moment of birth,” Stefanik said. “Make no mistake, these proposals go far beyond codifying Roe v. Wade, showing House Democrats have no limits in advancing their Far-Left anti-life agenda. This bill removes nearly all protections for the unborn, cripples parental consent for minors, and undermines the health and safety of women. As a new mother, it is unconscionable that House Democrats would even consider such a radical reality, and I will continue to protect taxpayer dollars from funding on-demand abortion and support women and families from pregnancy through early childhood and equip children for adulthood and beyond,” Sefanik said in July.

The Women’s Health Protection Act passed the House, but has not yet cleared the Senate.
