Canton Recreation Department awaits guidance from state for swim lessons

CANTON -- Canton’s Recreation Department continues to wait for guidance from the state on whether swimming lessons will be permitted this summer, given ongoing COVID restrictions and precautions.

That guidance is expected any day, so the department and committee are optimistically moving forward with plans, local officials say.

It is anticipated that swim lessons will be held at the pool at Canton Central, and will run Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday from July 1 through Aug. 6.

The cost for residents of Canton for the five-week session will be $40 for the first child and $25 for each additional child registered; cost for non-residents of Canton will be $50. Payment will be due on the first day of lessons; cash or check are acceptable forms of payment.

Children between the ages of 4 and 12 may be registered at https://forms.gle/iWVnPGebfkrcNowX6. Paper copies of the registration form are also available in the town and village clerks’ offices.

“At this time, we are unsure of the possibility of allowing parents into the school,” said Carol Pynchon, deputy mayor. “ Locker rooms will be available for bathroom, showering and changing purposes.”
