CANTON -- A man died and two others were injured this morning following a motor vehicle crash on Irish Settlement Road, according to state police.
Troopers responded to a single vehicle accident around 8 a.m. and determined that a 2008 Honda Civic that was being operated by 19-year old Cody J. Schweinberg of Madrid.
The vehicle was traveling north when it exited the roadway and crashed into a tree, officers said.
A passenger, 20-year old Tyler A. Bessette of Canton, was killed at the scene.
A second passenger, Nathaniel C. Pennyman, Calcium, was transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital and later transferred to Upstate Medical in Syracuse for treatment for his injuries. He was last listed in stable condition.
The driver was listed in stable condition at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Police said an autopsy would be performed Monday, April 18 on Bessette to determine his cause of death.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Troopers were assisted with the investigation by local fire and EMS members and St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
