CANTON – A chicken, guinea pigs, hamster, kittens, sand several dogs, as well as a toy elephant, were shown at the Children’s Pet Show Thursday, July 28.

A dozen families brought their pets to the show. Each pet received a ribbon, and every child was given a prize.

The event was sponsored by the Canton Free Library Summer Reading Program. It was supported by the Friends of the Canton Free Library and the St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau.

The pet show was held in the First Presbyterian Church, rather than the Canton Village Park, due to rain.

Valerie White, Youth Services Specialist for the Canton library, organized the pet show.

“It has become a beloved event, closing out the library’s annual Summer Reading Program for years,” said White.
