Canton Central shifts to remote learning due to COVID case among bus drivers

CANTON — Canton Central has shifted to remote learning after several members of its transportation department were ordered to quarantine following a positive COVID-19 test among its staff.

“This morning we were notified that a member of our transportation team has tested positive for COVID-19,” CCS officials said in a statement on the district Facebook page. “Contact tracing is now complete.”

As a result of this case and quarantines from yesterday, almost half of the district’s transportation department is now unable to report to work.

“As a result, we will transition to fully remote instruction through next Monday, March 8, 2021. It is anticipated that we will return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, March 9, 2021,” officials aid.

Next week, to maximize in-person instruction, virtual Wednesday will be moved to Monday.

The CCS schedule for through March 12 is as follows:

Wednesday, March 3:

Virtual Wednesday Instructional Model

Seaway Tech Students will attend in-person.

Students attending out-of-district special education programs will attend in-person.

Athletic practices and musical rehearsals will proceed as scheduled

Thursday, March 4:

Long-term Remote Instructional Model

Seaway Tech Students will attend in-person.

Students attending out-of-district special education programs will attend in-person.

Athletic practices and musical rehearsals are not allowed due to COVID related closure

Friday, March 5:

Long-term Remote Instructional Model

Seaway Tech Students attend in-person.

Students attending out-of-district special education programs will attend in-person.

Athletic practices and musical rehearsals are not allowed due to COVID related closure

Monday, March 8:

Virtual Wednesday Instructional Model

Seaway Tech Students will attend in-person.

Students attending out-of-district special education programs will attend in-person.

English Language Learners will resume in-person instruction.

Athletic practices and musical rehearsals will proceed as scheduled.
