CANTON -- Canton Canoe Weekend registration forms are now posted at http://slvpaddlers.org/.

Those who sign up for the May 13-15 events before March 15 get discounts on the entry fee and the special 50th anniversary long-sleeve shirts. The first 50 registered receive these quick-dry long-sleeve shirts free. Registration between March 15 and April 15 is at a discounted fee.

In addition to the events on the river you can compete for special prizes donated by local businesses. These include most past Canton Canoe Weekend shirts; most doubles (shirts from both Saturday and Sunday); traveled furthest; traveled shortest; youngest; oldest; most lively costume; best Rushton-period costume. They will also take suggestions for other contests.

There are five separate paddling events during the weekend: the original Rushton, from Pyrites to the island in Canton Friday afternoon; Saturday morning, the modern Rushton for recreational canoes and kayaks at three, five and eight miles; Saturday afternoon, the solo canoe and kayak marathon race at 12 and 14 miles; Sunday morning, the tandem canoe and kayak marathon race at 12 and 14 miles; and Sunday afternoon, the recreational relay event for teams of six, of family, students, co-workers, friends etc.
