CANTON – Town of Canton Assessor Cindy Brand is available to meet with senior citizens to answer questions and review applications about a new state law regarding senior citizens property tax exemptions, reported Canton Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley.
The new law, signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Dec. 23, requires a second copy of the notice required by Real Property Tax Law § 467, Subsection Four (4) to be sent 30 days prior to the filing deadline. The first notice was listed on the back of the real property tax statements.
Brand will be available Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. should there be further questions and review of the application.
Seniors ages 65 and over who meet the income guidelines for 2021 of $28,399.99 are eligible to apply for the exemption. Completed applications must be submitted to Town Assessor Brand by March 1, 2023.
Assessor Brand’s office number is 315-386-2595 or email assessor@cantonny.gov.
