BOCES offering variety of adult ed and workforce development courses and programs this fall

CANTON — St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES Adult Education and Workforce Development is offering the following training courses this fall.

In Canton:

• Healthcare Clerical Support, Sept. 5-Jan. 21, 2020, Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-9 p.m. This comprehensive program prepares students to sit for the certified administrative medical assistant national certification exam.

• Phlebotomy Technician, Sept. 12-Dec. 19, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5-8 p.m. Students completing the course will attain through lecture, demonstration and clinical laboratory experience, all the skills necessary to sit for the national certificate exam for entry-level placement as a phlebotomist.

• Introduction to Human Services, Oct. 2-Dec. 11, Mondays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. This introductory course is for entry-level employment as a direct support professional.

• EKG Technician, Sept. 10-Nov. 21, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Students completing the course will attain through lecture, demonstration and clinical experience, all the skill necessary to sit for the national certification exam for entry-level placement as a EKG Technician.

In Norwood:

• Introductory Welding, Sept. 11-Nov. 6, Wednesdays 4:30-8:30 p.m. This class includes basic metallurgy, hand tool usage, basic repair, and safety training for welders. No experience needed

• Intermediate Welding, Nov. 13-Feb. 5, 2020, Wednesdays from 4:30-8:30 p.m. This class focuses on the fundamentals of stick welding. Students will practice flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead welding using applicable electrodes.

• Heating and Ventilation, Sept. 10-Jan. 21, 2020, Tuesdays 4:30-8:30 p.m. This is an introductory course and will prepare you for a career as a heating and ventilation technician with specialized skills that are needed to perform service and repair procedures.

• Building Maintenance Technician, Sept. 16-Feb. 12, 2020, Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-8:30 p.m. This certificate course consists of essential carpentry skills, essential plumbing skills, basic electricity and construction blueprint reading.

Students may be eligible for training funds for these class if they meet certain requirements. Call for more information.
