GOUVERNEUR — A Lisbon man is facing a second-degree manslaughter charge in the death of Andrew D. Johnston on Feb. 13.
Gouverneur police announced Brian K. Hale, 30, was charged on April 20 with one count of second-degree manslaughter, a class C felony, in connection with Johnston’s death.
Police say Hale turned himself in and was subsequently arraigned in Gouverneur town court before being released under supervision of the St. Lawrence County Probation Department.
Hale is being represented by attorney Ed Narrow, who said he will review the District Attorney's discovery evidence with Hale before deciding on a course of action with his client.
Johnston was found unresponsive on Feb. 13 in his apartment, located at 18 Johnstown St. Apt D, Gouverneur, police say.
Gouverneur Police and Volunteer Rescue Squad members attempted life saving measures but were unsuccessful, police say.
An autopsy was ordered, which later determined the cause of death likely stemmed from the altercation at Serendipity Bar, Gouverneur, with Dr. Robert Stoppacher, Medical Examiner, ruling the death a homicide.
Gouverneur Police received assistance from the St. Lawrence County District Attorney’s office, New York State Police and Homeland Security Investigations.
