The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team held off a late RIT rally to earn an 80-70 victory in the Burkman Gymnasium on Saturday night.
The Saints extended their win streak to five games and improved to 13-4 overall with a 9-4 mark in the Liberty League. The Tigers, led by Justin Heisig's game-high 24 points, fell to 6-14 overall and 2-9 in the league.
Senior co-captain Ralph Temgoua and junior Kyle Miller led four in double-figures with 20 points each for the Saints. Temgoua added seven assists and seven rebounds, while Miller was 6-of-8 from behind the arc. Senior co-captain Garrett Sharlow added 15 points and five rebounds, while senior Terry Parham chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.
St. Lawrence, which led 37-26 at halftime, extended its lead to as many as 22 points on a 3-pointer by first-year student Brady Condlin at 15:15 in the second half. The visitors then posted a 26-9 run over the next 10:00 minutes to come within seven points, 64-57, on a layup by Heisig at 4:24. The Saints would not let the Tigers get any closer, making 6-of-8 free throws down the stretch and closing out the 80-70 victory to earn the weekend sweep.
The Saints will play Bard next Friday, February 10, in the Burkman Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00pm.
