BUFFALO, N.Y.—On the final day at the SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships SUNY Potsdam junior swimmer Alexander Taylor won another SUNYAC Championship and set his fourth record in three days of competition. Taylor was named the Male Swimmer of the Meet. Both the Bears men finished seventh and the women placed finished ninth. Geneseo captured both the men’s and women’s championships.
Taylor stayed red hot on Saturday. He qualified for the 200 breaststroke finals with a time of 2:09.11 and then set a conference record with a winning time of 2:06.61 to earn his second SUNYAC title in as many days. The time eclipses Ken Pink’s 2009 mark by seven hundredths of a second.
Junior Liz Ringer led the Potsdam women, qualifying for the 200 butterfly finals with a time of 2:17.07. In the finals she swam to a seventh place finish with a time of 2:17.13. Ringer was just 2.06 seconds away from matching the school record.
Senior Ryan Wentz closed out his Bears career with a strong day. Wentz qualified for the 200 butterfly finals with a time of 2:01.96. He then shaved 1.45 seconds off his time in the finals for a seventh place finish.
Sophomore Richie Zimmerman was also in the middle of things on Saturday. Zimmerman was on Taylor’s heels in the in the 200 breaststroke. He qualified for the finals with a time of 2:10.69 and then placed fourth in the finals with a time of 2:09.81.
