SUNY Canton women defeat Vermont Tech

(Randolph, Vt.)- Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) turned in a terrific all-around performance and SUNY Canton clamped down defensively as they beat Vermont Technical College 68-48 Saturday afternoon in Randolph Center, Vt.

The Roos, winners of five of their last six games, swept their Vermont trip and improved to 5-2 in the Sunrise Conference and 7-9 overall. SUNY Canton beat the College of St. Joseph 79-40 Friday night in Rutland.

Kenyon scored a game-high 14 points against the Green Knights hitting 5 of 10 shots from the floor and 3 of 4 free throws leading the Roos to another solid outing at the charity stripe. For the game the Roos shot 75 percent as a team converting 9 of 12 free throw attempts. Kenyon also had five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

The Roos had 13 steals, forced 28 Vermont Tech turnovers and limited the Greeen Knights to just 36 percent shooting.

Ilijana Todorovic (Banja Luka, Bosnia) scored 11 points, her highest total since joining the team this semester from Bosnia. Todorovic nailed all three of her free throw attempts and also made two steals. Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) added 10 points, two rebounds and two assists and Jackie Maynard (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) contributed nine points.

Eliza Wakefield led Vermont Tech with 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Kelly Vellek also had 13 points and three assists.

The Roos come home next weekend as they’ll host the University of Maine at Machias on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. and Vermont Tech on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 12 p.m. Both games will be at Clarkson University’s Alumni Gym.
