St. Lawrence University senior soccer captain Devon Shatkin is a big fan of set plays.

Shatkin, who had two career goals in 44 games going into Friday's Liberty League game with Bard College on Sandy MacAllaster Field, stepped up from her usual position as the center back in the Saint defense and scored twice on corner kicks and set up another goal following a direct kick to lead the Saints to a 3-0 win over the Raptor's in Bard's first game as a Liberty League entry.

The Saints improve to 5-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 heading into a Saturday game against Vassar, while Bard is now 3-6-0 and 0-1-0 and will take on Clarkson in Potsdam on Saturday.

The Saints combined a solid defensive performance with Shatkin's offensive heroics to record their fourth straight victory. SLU outshot Bard 17-3 and had eight corner kicks to three for the Raptors, but some big saves by goalkeepers Lena James and Simone Leitner and some help from the post kept the Saints from an even larger margin of victory. Shatkin doubled her career goal total and recorded her first collegiate assist in the game.

"I was very proud of our defensive effort for the entire game, and I thought we moved the ball very well at times on the attack. Although we missed a few quality opportunities, we still did an excellent job of finishing," said Saint coach Frano Bari.

The Saints had a chance to take a lead just 6:10 into the game when they were awarded a penalty kick after a hand ball following a Saint corner kick. Stephanie Sayward's shot snuck just outside the far post and Bard dodged its first bullet.

Shatkin scored her first of the game just over 20 minutes later as Katherine Polido sent a corner kick to the top of the 18-yard box and Shatkin one-timed a hard shot which whizzed through traffic and past Bard starting goalie James for the game's first goal at 26:42.

The Saints made it 2-0 6:46 into the second half as Shatkin took the ball following Polido's free kick from about the midpoint of the Saint attacking zone. Shatkin drove to the end line and sent a hard shot toward goal that James managed to get her hands on, but couldn't control, and first year Mackenzie Collins put away her third of the year on the rebound.

Collins nearly scored another with 28:12 to play in the game, but her first shot went off the post and then she chipped the rebound just over the crossbar. The Saints were able to make it 3-0 at the 72:23 mark as Shatkin headed Polido's corner kick past Bard backup goalkeeper Leitner.

James had five saves in 59:28 and Leitner three in 30:32 for the Raptors while Abby van Ge
