The St. Lawrence University seniors Karell Emard and Lauren Brozowski each scored a goal, leading the women's hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer in Troy, NY in Saturday's 2010-11 ECAC Hockey regular season finale.

The win is the third straight for the Scarlet and Brown, which heads into the ECAC Hockey postseason as the No. 7 seed with a 16-16-2 (11-11-0) record.  St. Lawrence will face Harvard in a best-of-three series beginning on Friday in Cambridge, MA.  The loss moves RPI to 10-16-7 (8-12-2) on the season, as the Engineers will head to Ithaca, NY to take on the No. 1 seeded Cornell Big Red.

"Maxie (Weisz) turned in some timely saves late in the game," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells.  "We were able to gut out a big win in a playoff atmosphere."

Rensselaer wasted little time in taking a 1-0 lead, as Alisa Harrison put the home team on top only 52 seconds into regulation.  Harrison beat St. Lawrence netminder Maxie Weisz for her eighth goal of the season, with assists going to Taylor Horton and Amanda Castignetti.

Despite being outshot 13-8 in the stanza, St. Lawrence would even the scoring at 1-1 before intermission.  Brozowski scored her fifth of the year at the 9:32 mark of the first, while sophomore Kayla Sullivan and rookie Bailey Habscheid earned assists.

With the two teams battling throughout a very evenly-played second period, Emard would give the Scarlet and Brown a 2-1 cushion at 9:53.  The assistant captain scored on RPI's Sonja Van der bliek for her ninth goal of the season, while fellow Quebec native Vanessa Emond had the assist.

The third period would belong to Weisz, who stopped 12 shots on goal from Rensselaer to secure two crucial points in the ECAC Hockey standings.  The Severna Park, MD native closed with 31 saves to Van der bliek's 20, allowing St. Lawrence to leave the capital district as the No. 7 seed in the playoffs. The Saints were 0-for-4 on the power play, while Rensselaer was 0-for-2.

St. Lawrence will square off in game one against Harvard on Friday, February 25.  Game times for the quarterfinal series against the Crimson are to be determined.
