The St. Lawrence University volleyball team defeated the Plattsburgh State Cardinals 3-0 (25-16, 27-25, 25-16) Tuesday night in Burkman Gymnasium.

The Saints improve to 19-9, while the Cardinals fall to 6-25 on the season.

In the first game, the Saints never gave up their lead after Plattsburgh tied the score up at 1-1 in the early going, closing out the set with a 12-6 run to get the win, 25-16.

In the second game, Plattsburgh took a 9-5 lead behind consecutive blocks by the front line and hard hitting by Cardinal middle hitter Cat Darling. The Saints battled back behind a kill and an ace by senior Lauren Drozynski and several Cardinal errors to knot the score at 19-19. Both teams exchanged points until the Saints were able to close out the match 27-25 as Drozynski and junior Liz Grogan recorded back-to-back kills.

The Saints continued to roll into the third game, jumping out to a 6-2 lead. Plattsburgh tied the score at 7-7, but the front line of Drozynski, Grogan and junior Marta Johann overpowered the Cardinals to end the set, 25-16.

Leading the Saints to victory was Grogan with 10 kills, while senior Abby Rose contributed 31 assists and 16 digs. Johann added nine kills, hitting for no errors (.692) and Drozynski recorded six kills and two solo blocks. Juniors Nyasha Miller and Katherine Pierce helped spark the Saints defense with 22 and 15 kills, respectively.

The Saints will travel to Nazareth College this weekend to take part in the NY Regional Tournament. They will play the University of Rochester Saturday, October 30 at 1:00pm.
