The St. Lawrence University men's crew team's varsity 8+ finished in third place overall at the 2011 Liberty League Rowing Championships on the St. Lawrence River in Waddington, NY on Saturday.

The Saints, who lost their heat to Union College by .2 seconds, raced in a time of 6:03.9 in the finals.  Hobart College retained the conference championship with a time of 5:35.1 while Union was second in 5:56.1.

"Certainly a ‘tip-of-the-cap' to Union for coming back this week and defeating us after we topped them at their place last weekend," said St. Lawrence head coach George Repicky.  "Congratulations to Hobart on their continued success and on winning the conference title again this year."

The Saints varsity 8+ was stroked by David MacClaren, while Audrey Strasenburgh was the coxswain.  Other members of the boat included Nick Blum, Cam West, Francis Stripp, Ethan Buhl, Andrew Freeman, Brent Underwood and Jonathan Williams.

St. Lawrence also finished in second place in the men's Novice 8+ competition with a time of 6:11.8, nearly eight seconds faster than Skidmore College.  Hobart earned the win in that race with a time of 5:58.1.

The novice boat was stroked by Sam Scheu and coxed by Elena Ruiz.  Other members of the boat were Philip Hodosy, Peter Weatherill, Evan Pierce, Thomas Lockwood, Michael Brewer, Thaddeus Sipe and Andy Caswell.

St. Lawrence will be in action again next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at the 2011 New York State Championships in Whitney Point, NY.
