Saints Durham eighth in slalom at Dartmouth Carnival

St. Lawrence University sophomore Ashley-Kate Durham earned her second consecutive eighth-place finish at the 2011 Dartmouth Carnival on Saturday.

Durham, who was eighth in the GS on Friday, posted a combined time of 1:42.13 in the slalom to earn her ninth career top-10 finish. The Timmins, ON native was awarded 33.0 points, helping the Saints women's team finish in sixth position as a squad.

Sophomore Ann West and first-year student Hayley Best capped the team's scoring. West finished in 24th while Best followed in 27th.

Junior Elena Rogers (38th) and rookie Caroline Barry (39th) also competed in the women's slalom.

The St. Lawrence men's alpine team finished in ninth place after being led by junior Matt Dodge for the second straight day. Dodge finished in 28th overall with a time of 1:45.46. First-year student Dustin Martin (33rd) and sophomore Cory Ransom (38th) rounded out the Saints' top-three.

First-year students Ben DeFlavio (46th) and Nick Scalia (49th) and senior Thatcher Jacques (DQ 2nd) also represented St. Lawrence in the men's event on Saturday.

The University of Vermont swept both the individual and team titles on Saturday. The Catamounts' women's team won with 129.0 points, while the men claimed victory with 138.0. Kate Ryley and Tim Kelley won the women's and men's slalom races, respectively, for UVM as well.

Both the St. Lawrence alpine ski teams will be in action next weekend at the 2011 Middlebury Carnival.
