SUNY Potsdam junior Ryan Wentz was named State University of New York Athletic Conference Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Nov. 14, the conference announced Monday.

Wentz won the 1000 freestyle, 200 butterfly and 100 butterfly events to help the Bears defeat Brockport 156.5-136.5 and remain unbeaten in dual contests three meets into the 2010-11 campaign. The Pendleton, N.Y. native won all three races in dominating fashion, taking the freestyle event by more than 17 seconds, the 200 fly by nearly 12 seconds and the 100 fly by over three seconds.

An All-SUNYAC performer last season, Wentz has yet to lose in an individual event this season competing in butterfly and freestyle individual events. He is also a key member of a pair of relay teams.

The Bears host the North Country Invitational this Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19-20, at Maxcy Hall Pool.

Potsdam junior Trevor O’Neill of the men’s hockey team was also selected as a conference player of the week.

Each week, SUNYAC sports information directors nominate student-athletes from their respective institutions for each sport and each player of the week is selected by the league’s administration.
