Potsdam, NY - Juniors Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) and Chrissy Scanlon (Queensbury, NY) produced 15 and 14 points, respectively, as the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team claimed a 65-45 victory over SUNY Canton Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights evened their record at 2-2 on the young season, while SUNY Canton dropped to 1-5 overall. Clarkson will take on Potsdam State next Tuesday.

Clarkson roared out the gates with eight points in the first two minutes, including a 3-pointer from Lauren Pluchino (Liverpool, NY) on the game's opening possession. Canton would crawl back to within three points early in the half (trailing 8-5), but the Knights would open up a double-figure advantage with free throws as both teams struggled to make shots from the perimeter and on the block. Clarkson pushed its advantage to as many as 18 points in the first half, but Canton tallied the last four points of the half to make the score 33-19.

The second half was more of the same, as Clarkson held at least a 16-point lead throughout the final period after the first basket of the half. Both teams struggled mightily from the perimeter, each shooting 2-for-14 from beyond the 3-point arc, but the Knights were able to hold their lead with an excess of offensive rebounds, snatching 18 on the offensive glass in the game.

Carey Turner led the team in scoring with 15 points in just 19 minutes, shooting 5-for-7 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Chrissy Scanlon tossed in 14 points, going 6-for-11 from the field. Lauren Pluchino added 8 points and a game-high 8 rebounds, as well as 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Stacey Garcia (St. Albans, NY) was the leading playmaker, providing five assists to go along with her three steals.

For SUNY Canton, Shannon LaFave was a tough force to stop inside as she led the Kangaroos with 22 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field and an 8-for-8 performance from the free throw line.
