Glens Falls, NY - Seniors Meghan Cleason (Canandaigua, NY) and Clayton Reynolds (Rome, NY) closed out their regular season careers for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team this weekend as both were among the top performers in another sweep at the Skidmore Invitational held at West Mountain.
The Clarkson men were first out of seven teams in both the giant slalom and slalom, while the women repeated the performance, finishing first out of seven teams as well.
In the giant slalom for the women, junior Jill Clevenger (LaGrangeville, NY) won both runs to take first place for the Knights in 1:39.59, while freshman Emilie Garand (Yarmouth, ME) claimed third place. The lone women's senior Cleason came in fourth to round out the times for Clarkson, and Sarah Shafer (Petoskey, MI) took seventh.
For the men, JP Phaneuf (Montreal, QUE) was first in 1:34.01 and freshman Christian Perryman (West Lebanon, NH) was less than one-third of a second behind for second place. Junior Cedrik Proteau-Dubois (Ste. Adele, QUE) came in a close third and freshman Matt Bonner (Killington, VT) placed fourth. Reynolds took seventh in the giant slalom.
On Sunday, both Cleason and Reynolds upped their games for the Knights. Cleason took second overall in the slalom, behind teammate Clevenger, while Reynolds was fifth, helping the Knights to a near 18-second victory. Clarkson's women claimed the top four spots as Clevenger and Cleason were followed by Garand and Shafer. On the men's side, Phaneuf took first and Bonner was second as the two traded the top times in the two runs.
