Port Charlotte, FL – Rookie Jesse Iacovetta posted five hits and senior Edward Malinoski, Jr. drove in three runs as the SUNY Canton baseball team split a doubleheader against Bridgewater State University on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
Iacovetta paced the Canton bats with three hits as he scored twice and drove in another run in the opener. Fernando Santana and Ricky Arias also had a hit and RBI each, while Brett Hoberman, Collin Lynk and Ben Miller also registered hits.
Bridgewater State scored five runs each in the first and ninth innings, while adding four in the seventh and three each in the fourth and seventh frames.
Ruben Gonzalez and Colin Josselyn recorded four hits each and combined to score five runs and drive in seven more.
Shawn Smeglin earned the win giving up three earned runs over five innings with four strike outs.
Derrek DuPont took the loss for Canton surrendering seven earned runs over five innings.
GAME 2
The Roos battled back in the nightcap behind three hits, two runs and 3 RBI from Malinoski. Six players had multi-hit games in all as Iacovetta, Brian and Fernando Santana, Lynk and Don Louis Rodriguez all accomplished the feat. Rodriguez also drove in a pair of runs for Canton.
Leading 4-2 headed to the seventh inning, Canton scored six runs over the final three innings to secure the split. Rodriguez scored Malinoski and F. Santana on a 2 RBI single in the seventh. Hoberman walked home Shane Tiernan and Malinoski had a 2 RBI single in the eighth, while Iacovetta singled home Collin Trathen in the ninth.
Brandon Bautista earned the win giving up just two earned runs over seven innings while fanning six batters. Zack Newman was strong in relief giving up one earned run over two innings with four strike outs.
Trever Dennett took the loss for BSU giving up five earned over 6.2 innings with five strike outs.

The Roos close out their Florida trip on Saturday when they take on Vassar College at 9 a.m.
