Hart NCAA bound, Saints complete carnival season

The St. Lawrence University Nordic ski teams competed the 2011 carnival season on Sunday at the EISA Championships hosted by Bates College at Black Mountain.  Meanwhile, junior Leah Hart, who was 18th in the women's 15K Classic, will represent the Scarlet and Brown at the 2011 NCAA Championships.

Hart was the top St. Lawrence finisher in the classic races on Sunday, as she finished the course in 55:24.0 to earn 27.0 points towards the carnival despite tripping at the start.  The Meredith, NH native will compete in Stowe, VT next week, March 9-12, at the national championship races.

Joining Hart in the scoring for the Saints were junior Caroline Carpenter and rookie Amanda Moreland.  Carpenter was 27th overall while Moreland followed in 39th.  The trio combined for 57.0 points, good for sixth in the team standings.

Sophomore Kelsey Nichols (42nd), senior Sophie Allen (44th) and first-year student Amy Cymerman (56th) also competed in the women's 15K Classic.

In the men's 20K Classic, graduate student Zach Wetherell finished 21st overall to lead the Saints in his final collegiate race.  The Hinsdale, MA native raced in 1:05:25.2 to net 23.0 points and pace St. Lawrence to eighth in the team standings.

Senior captain Steven Vargo, competing in his final race as well, was 30th overall and junior Adam Terko capped the team's point total in 37th place.

Sophomore Connor Hunt (50th), senior Kyle Marvinney (DNF) and rookie Eric Lustgarten (DNF) also raced for the Saints in the men's event.

Dartmouth College swept the classic races, earning both the team and individual winners.  Rosie Brennan won the women's 15K while Eric Packer earned the men's title.
